Recordist's notes
This excerpt of a rainmaking song will take you in to a rehearsal of the Thandanani Women’s Ensemble. Imagine a group of about a dozen women in their 40s, 50s and 60s engaged in a most energetic dance and song… The Thandanani Women’s Ensemble was formed in 1991 by women in their 40s and 50s most of them from Mashobana township. The initial idea was to enjoy their arts and culture together and to share it with the young generation, thus the Ndebele word “thandanani” means, loving one another. The group is well known for their vibrant performances in traditional song and dance, established in the national arts industry and well versed as accapella performers in recordings and performers in film. You can find the entire list of recordings from that day archived here: https://archive.org/details/Voices_from_Bulawayo_894 From: http://both-sides-of-the-zambezi.tumblr.com/
