Recordist's notes

… a bit later inside Wayi Wayi Gallery, Agness describes “Mbusa Ceremony”, an arranged re-staging of Agness’ and Laurence Bemba wedding (ubwinga), at once performance and research. The event initiated the artist-couple as well as many invited guests into the secret teachings of Mbusa, it married traditional women’s craft to the realm of contemporary arts and opened new channels of communication between indigenous culture, Art, ritual, performance, teaching, and life. She then goes on to talk about how indigenous culture inspires her as a contemporary artist, and refers to a recording from Binga, I had played to her earlier which left a picture in her head… (it’s the recording with Luyando and Janet at BaTonga Museum about women’s initation among the Tonga people; you can find it here on the map...)
