Recordist's notes
Combined recording of omnis and geophone on the ground. The Devil's Pit is the deepest pit in Lithuania: it is funnel-shaped and is about 40 metres deep. The regular circular upper pit diameter is 200 metres. The peat layer at the bottom of the Pit is about 10 metres tall bringing the total depth of the Pit to about 50 metres. The origing is unknown: tectonic or meteoritic.
Context
This recording was made away from larger towns, about 39 km from the nearest city in our gazetteer.
Equipment mentioned: Contact microphones. Piezo pickups that record vibrations in solid materials instead of airborne sound.
