Recordist's notes
A field recording from Uzina Dinamo in the early morning captures the overlapping emergence of urban and non-human rhythms at the start of daily activity. Birdsong forms a continuous acoustic presence, while the sounds of shop shutters being opened (kepenks) introduce metallic, mechanical interruptions as the marketplace comes to life. In addition, the repetitive sound of material handling—such as opening and unwrapping goods—adds another layer of rhythmic activity within the space. Together, these elements reveal how the rhythms of social life in Tirana’s market areas begin to unfold through the interplay of biophonic sound, commercial preparation, and everyday labor.
