Recordist's notes
At dusk, the Coqui frogs — an invasive species from Pure Rico — begin peeping. It’s the males who make this sound. They make a low ‘CO’ then a high pitched ‘QUI!’ at a fairly earsplitting volume (>100dB). The ‘CO’ means, “Hey other frog dudes, stay away, this is my turf” and the ‘QUI’ means, “Heyyyy ladies….” Recorded in MS stereo using an android phone and a zoom AM7 USB microphone / preamp.
Context
