Recordist's notes

On the final evening of Maschggra, (the local traditional Carnival) a large Straw Puppet (impersonating Winter) is burned. There is food and drink. There is a Crowd of People. The hammering sound is from so called "Schnappviecher" a traditional (or archaic) local carnival costume with a large head, adorned with horns and goat fur towering above its bearer and large jaws with wooden teeth and a metal tongue that, while the bearers are operating them produce an impressive noise.
