Recordist's notes

… we are in a court yard at Notting Hill Gate… it’s Carnival Monday…! The place here is home of Yaa Asentewaa Arts Club… I’ve been here for hours… witnessing with growing excitement what I remember from Rio de Janeiro as “concentracao”… the “moment” just before the march… (that “moment” can take hours… and indeed the build-up of “concentracao” takes weeks and months…!)… so here just the last 14 odd minutes… … it’s a special one though… listen, the order of characters and groups tells a history…”condensed”… (…I’m linking these recordings to the map… 9 years past… in honour of Carnival and, of Claudia Jones , the “mother of Carnival” …!) more tracks archived at https://archive.org/details/no-go-zones_70 for Yaa Asentewaa see: http://yaaasantewaa.com
