Rock and roll entered Greece in the early 1960s. In this "Golden Youth" era, pop-rock bands were the first to appear, but were soon followed by the formation of true rock bands, such as Aphrodite's Child.
Greek rock bands and performers in later decades include Socrates Drank the Conium, Pavlos Sidiropoulos, Dimitris Poulikakos, and The Last Drive. In the beginning of the 1980s, there was a small but energetic number of punk and New Wave bands, and in the 1990s hip-hop elements also entered the mainstream rock scene.
