A kui (Kazakh: күй), also spelled küy, is a Kipchak instrumental musical composition that is usually sung to the accompaniment of traditional Kazakh plucked, bowed, and wind instruments such as the dombyra, qobyz, syrnai, jetigen, tsuur, although the Kazakh dombyra and the Kyrgyz komuz (both long-necked lutes) are most frequently used. In the 20th century, Kazakh Soviet musicians experimented with choral arrangements of kuis.
