Definition of Murder of Jordan Davis

On November 23, 2012, Jordan Davis, an African-American 17-year-old, was murdered in the parking lot of a Gate Petroleum gas station in Jacksonville, Florida by Michael David Dunn, a 45-year-old software developer, during a car-to-car quarrel over loud music being played by the occupants of the vehicle Davis was seated in.

During his initial trial, Dunn was convicted of three counts of attempted second-degree murder of the vehicle's three other occupants, and one count of firing into an occupied vehicle. Dunn had been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Davis, but the jury could not reach a verdict on this count.

In a second trial, Dunn was found guilty of the first-degree murder charge and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole plus 105 years in prison.
