What the book is about
Barton's textbook was written for university students and covers the whole field as it stood in the early twentieth century: the physics of vibration, propagation, the measurement of pitch and intensity, musical instruments and the voice.
It is a good window into how acoustics was taught just before electronics – microphones, amplifiers and loudspeakers – transformed the subject.
