What the book is about
Zahm, a priest and science professor at the University of Notre Dame, wrote this richly illustrated popular book on acoustics and music. It describes the experiments of Tyndall, Helmholtz and König with enthusiasm and many diagrams.
It is especially good on apparatus: sirens, tuning forks, resonators and König's manometric flames, the visual 'oscilloscopes' of the nineteenth century.
