Recordist's notes
Field interview with ecohydrologist Andrew Bowden Smith on the Eddleston Water near Peebles. Andrew works for a team who are restoring meanders to a stretch of river which was artificially straightened in the 19th century. This is an experimental project aimed partly at flood mitigation and also to meet the EU's Water Framework Directive. He talks about the challenges of designing a riverbed to emulate the waterflow of a natural river. Google map shows the straight water course, which now has several meanders and looks very different! Recorded by Jules Horne for Working the Tweed, a Year of Natural Scotland project. www.workingthetweed.co.uk.
