Recordist's notes
Once in a year, the students of Aarau walk with lanterns through the city. The event is said to come from medival ages, when the brooks of the city were cleaned once a year. The students produce the lanterns themselves, thus every year it is also a parade of new designs. You hear the drums in front of the parade, then the whole parade, the recording is made within the audience, who comments on the lanterns ('pinguine!', 'das Aarauer Stadtwappen), as well as the singing students, who always sing the same song: «Fürio de Bach brönnt, d Suhrer händ /ne aazöndt, d Aarauer händ ne glösche, / d Chüttiger, d Chüttiger riite uf de Frösche!».
