Recordist's notes
Soundscape of the coastal rainforest at night. The forest is unique on Atiu with a lush vegetation and a closed canopy. The squealing calls in the recording are from a chattering Kingfisher, a bird species endemic to the Cook Islands. Otherwise there is a host of insects, twigs and leaves cracking and/or falling and of course in the background the ever present roar of waves on the outer reef. Recorded with a Sound Devices 702 field recorder and a modified Crown - SASS setup incorporating two Sennheiser mkh 20 microphones.
Context
This recording was made away from larger towns, about 217 km from the nearest city in our gazetteer.
Equipment mentioned: Sound Devices recorders and Sennheiser MKH microphones. Professional location recorders (702, 722, MixPre series) with very quiet preamps.
