Recordist's notes

Waves on the beach at a place that was signposted "Cooks Landing".It is said that James Cook first set foot on Atiu somewhere in this area. At the night of the recording there were, apart from myself, no intruders. The beach was alive with hermit crabs. The roar of the surf on the outer reef at high tide sets the background for the softer splashing and rushing of the waves on a beach consisting of seashell fragments, coral rabble and coral sand. Dummy head Microphopne facing seaward, about 6 meters away from the waterline. Recorded with a Sound Devices 702 field recorder and a modified Crown - SASS setup incorporating two Sennheiser mkh 20 microphones.
