Recordist's notes
The Wrangell Narrows divide the islands of Mitkof and Kupreanof. This skinny waterway experiences quick tides; another name for Petersburg is Séet Ká Kwáan, meaning "place of the fast-moving waters" in Lingít. Offal and fish waste are released from the cannery into the narrows, and this attracts a variety of species of gulls and aquatic life. This recording captures the sounds of gulls as well as the hum of a busy working harbor. It was recorded on September 13th, 2025 at 4:47pm in stereo using a H4N microphone.
