Recordist's notes
A procession of drummers in Hastings Old Town recorded during the Jack in the Green Festival. Recorded on Zoom H5 as the drummers marched along the narrow Croft Road. Jack in the Green, originating during the 18th century, is a traditional annual event that celebrates the passing of winter. A parade of musicians, dancers, costumed characters and bogies escort Jack, a leafy, towering conical figure through the Old Town up to the West Hill where it is slain and the spirit of Summer released.
