Recordist's notes
We are together with Barbara Mudimba and the sales assistant, Viola Mwembe at the Craft Centre in Binga. Viola translates from the ChiTonga. Barbara is a woman from Kariangwe, a village in the Binga district. She started weaving baskets as a means of survival, providing for herself and her family. Here, she tells us about what it means to her being a creative producer. Barbara used to belong to a club of women basket-weavers in Kariangwe. I learn that now married in Binga town, Barbara is alone in her weaving work; there’s no club in town; while in the villages, the women would come together in their local collectives to do the production as a team [in a later interview with Zubo Trust officer, Abbigal Muleya, I hear more about the team work among the rural women; see/ hear: http://aporee.org/maps/work/?loc=19128].
