Recordist's notes
Male natterjacks calling in bursts of a few minutes to attract females. A shallow pool surrounded buy tall gras just after sundown. A Canada goose flies overhead. Natterjack toads are often associated with ponds in sand dune slacks, which are often more shallow and warm. Natterjacks require warmer water in which to breed successfully. Sandscale Haws nature reserve is home to a quarter of the UK’s population of this rare amphibian, which is only found at a handful of sites around the country. Cumbria has over half their breeding sites, and Sandscale Haws is a stronghold, with over 40 breeding pools. Classing natterjack Mono recording SD MixPre10 + Sennheiser 416.
