Recordist's notes

Just found another recording from May 1st! protest: After weeks of silence..... Ljubljana is very much alive again and it shows: DON'T TAKE OUR FREEDOM TO US! In the weeks when we, as a society, are responding jointly to the challenges of the epidemic, the government of Janez Janša, under the guise of combating the virus, introduces an emergency and curtails our freedoms on a daily basis. One after the other, there are controversial moves by the authorities, including increasing police powers, sending troops to the border, spreading false news about allegedly irresponsible behavior of the population, excessive and non-life-limiting movement of people, combating hatred of migrants, eliminating the most precarious from social assistance measures, spreading intolerance and personal attacks on journalists and press freedom. All this has nothing to do with the fight against the epidemic, but rather shows the desire of the current authorities to establish autocratic rule, militarize society and consolidate the privileges of the few who have power and wealth in that society. We call it NO! WHAT CAN WE START? We may not all have food in our kitchens right now, but we certainly have pots and cookers that we can moan loudly or recreate by bicycle noisily, thus clearly rejecting the authorities' worrying actions during the epidemic. A protest with pots and wheels means a resolute NO to autocratic rulers and a resolute yes to solidarity, life, mutual assistance, humanity and health FOR ALL. Resistance can be multifaceted - posters can be hung on windows and shared with friends, rotate your favorite protest song (and be really loud), shout slogans, whistle, hang socks off balconies and more .... let's be creative! WHEN? This Friday at 7pm we will gather balconies and bicycles and express our dissatisfaction. May our discontent be louder than the voices of the government and their confusion, the spread of fear and the empty promises made from television sets! TELL YOUR FRIEND! Show that we are not afraid. Invite your Facebook friends and call your neighbors. Print a poster and hang it around your block. Record your protest and post it on this event and your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. We are not afraid and they will not silence us!
