Recordist's notes
Route 66 State Park is a recreational area at the site of the Times Beach ghost town. Times Beach was abandoned by its residents in the 1980s after it was discovered to be contaminated by the hazardous chemical dioxin that had been sprayed on its dirt streets in waste oil to keep the dust down. The ground was incinerated and it was taken off the Superfund hazardous site list. The area was then made into a park commemorating historical U.S. Route 66 that passed by the town. Recording was made in a forested area of the park but there was still a continuous traffic drone from nearby Interstate Highway 44. A train passes and sounds its horn at 2:02.
