Recordist's notes
The cranes on the Google map are no longer there, but these are very new apartments. People are still moving in. The sounds of work inside still continues. The buildings surround a long narrow garden full of exotic plants and areas of different surfaces – gravel, small stones, sand – for walking and for kids to play. Perhaps this is Berlin's most up-to-date Hinterhof. There is 'green' design in all directions, except perhaps underfoot - surely grass would be nicer than so much paving. The many bike stands are all metal that ring beautifully when hit by hand. Together with the resonant railings they are an accidental musical instrument just waiting to be played.
