Recordist's notes

Azure Magpies congregate in large groups around this part of Anma-san...there is a remnant coppice remaining on flat land at the foot of the steep hillside, despite much clearing of land in the surrounding area over these last few years...the coppice provides slightly different habitat than the nearby wild hillside, and there is a lot of protection, privacy and grazing for these birds...perhaps they nest in this area of trees...the voices of these Azure Magpies are distinct from the white/black Asian Magpies, and has an interesting noisy rythymic energy...
