Recordist's notes
Early morning just after sunrise. A cold and clear Sunday, slightly frosty. The atmosphere is still, the rain has stopped, wildlife is silent, the city very distant. Every two or three minutes the quiet is punctuated by powerful train moving fast. Some seem to leave a trail of harsh sharp crackling in their wake. I've not heard this sound before and don't know what it is - maybe electrical sparks on icy cables.
