Recordist's notes

Großer Buntspecht, great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major). I've heard quite a few this morning, but this one was special. He has choosen a nesting box for bats, high above in a tree, as a resonance box for his drumming performance. That made his sound definitely the most impressive and loudest one among the other woodpeckers here. And it was successful, after a few minutes, a female bird showed up and they left the tree together. (SD702, DPA4060)
