Recordist's notes
Discussion at the opening of the exhibition "Abstract Paintings" by the German painter Gerhard Richter (http://www.museenkoeln.de/museum-ludwig/default.asp?s=850). One discutant compliments the arrangement of the exhibition, which creates an antmosphere reminding of an atelier: the sheathing of the ceiling was removed so that the harsh light shines directly onto the paintings. And, he says that especially with the laquer paintings Richter manoeuvres very close between "meaningful" and "arbitrary". And he is right! Some of these paintings look like IKEA industry prints.
