Recordist's notes
A sequence of recordings from a 36hr continuous radio.earth stream set up between March 20 and March 22. It starts in relative warm pleasant weather, but overnight changes bringing cooler temperatures and persistent rain, some heavy. The Prenzlauerberg Volkspark is one of the sites where Berlin's World War 2 rubble was dumped, creating two 'mountains' almost 40meters high. Today these are thicky wooded and re-wilded, but feel slightly strange and anomolous in the city's normally flat landscape. The mics were placed on one of the hillside overlooking a large area of small gardens, somewhat protected from direct city roar. However that can still be heard depending on wind, weather and time of day - rush hours are noticeably loud. All these tracks were recording with the same equipment and settings, so the roar levels and all the other differences between them are the result of what was happening in the soundscape at the time. This first recording is of a busy dusk - song thrushes sing vigorously, blackbirds, blue tits and crows are around, people play table tennis in the distance and trams squeal faintly in the city background.
