Recordist's notes

Several thousand grey seals come to this sandy beach during the winter months to give birth. The pups are fed by their mother then abandoned for 3 or 4 weeks while they put on layers of fat and grow their sea going fur. They then take to the water. It is also seal mating season, so the large males and pretty aggresively persuing females across the beach. any pups in the way are in danger of bein biten. It is an amazing sight. Seals of all sizes are everywhere. Some come 100 meters inland to rest amongst the dunes. They have become a major tourist attraction. Large car parks have been built and there are a good number of volunteer wardens trying to keep seals and people apart. Hundreds/thousands visit, families, incredibly excited kids, dogs on leashes - a piece of David Attenborough wildlife TV for real in front of your own eyes.
