Recordist's notes
This tree cricket was until relatively recently a Mediterranean species, but rising temperatures in northern Europe due to climate change have enabled it to expand its range. Berlin now has increasing numbers of viable populations around the city. It brings the sound of nighttime Italy or Spain right back home. This particular evening was beautifully warm (25C) emphasising the holiday atmosphere. Traffic roar from the A100 autobahn and beats from distant clubs spill across the former airfield. Many people are chilling out with family and friends in this vast, and very popular, open space. One of the things that makes a Berlin summer special.
