Recordist's notes

This audio stream was set up about half way up Teufelsberg amongst thick trees and vegetation for a 24hr period. These tracks are particular moments over that time and indicate some of the sonic changes – in city noise or birdsong - through the day. The weather was generally good, mixed cloud and sun, max temperature around 17C, min 2C at night, no rain, light wind. Teufelsberg, the highest peak in Berlin, is man-made - built of rubble and debris from WW2. The forest (the stream location) is very young, having existed only since the 1970s. It is heavily populated by fast growing, often invasive, species such as acacias (Robinia pseudoacacia), quite different from the Grunewald Forest that surrounds it. A gentle wind rustles leaves and a blackcap sing in the distance. A great spotted woodpecker calls briefly.
