Recordist's notes
This was a recording I made in Cumbria in early 2012 for the exhibition I was making for Rheged's 'Wonder of Wool' exhibition. It features the sounds of a live sheep auction. The loud punctuating sounds are what looked like a huge cow shin bone being used as a gaffle. As you can hear, the proceedings are amplified, and the speed of the auction is impressive. I couldn't follow what was happening at all! Recorded rather craftily with Naiant X-X microphones pinned on the outside of a rucksack which I just dumped on the floor in front of me. Not great quality but gives some sense of the rhythm and pace at one of these events.
