Recordist's notes

Perfect warm summer day. A small colony of mining bees (apparently there are about 70 species in the UK, I'm not sure which this is) flying and digging in the sandy soil between stones in a gravel track. Shingle Street is a special place, as the name suggests it is built on shingle and has unique position and coastsl ecology. It still feels very remote, but like much of the Uk's eat coast there are constant aircraft in the sky, from private propeller planes to NATO jets. The frequent clicking sound is the rope of a unionjack flag slapping against a tall flagpole in the wind. A European Linnet sometimes sings nearby
