Recordist's notes
Recording made on the site where the Centro Social Okupado La Atalaya (La Atalaya Squatted Social Center) stood a few months ago, now an empty lot. La Atalaya was born in 2014 with the reclamation of a public school, the IES Magerit, belonging to the Community of Madrid, which had been abandoned for years. The building is owned by the Social Housing Agency (Ivima). For 10 years, it hosted assemblies of numerous social and neighborhood groups, as well as the organization of hundreds of events and concerts. Inside, there was a climbing wall, a gym and bike repair shop, a library, and several multipurpose classrooms. Events were held there by the autonomous feminist movement of Madrid, the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH), and La Villana de Vallekas, among many other groups. La Atalaya was illegally evicted by the National Police on November 26, 2014, and the building was subsequently demolished. The raid is part of the progressive dismantling of occupied social centers in the city of Madrid.
