Recordist's notes

A group of kids sing rumbas flamencas in the street. Vallecas has long been home to Gitano (romani spanish self denomination) communities, many of whom settled here during the mid-20th century as part of broader working-class populations pushed to Madrid’s periphery. Flamenco, rumba, and oral musical traditions have been central to community life, transmitted informally across generations. These songs are present everyday in the streets, defining a cultural resistance within a neighborhood shaped by migration, exclusion, and strong social ties.
