Recordist's notes
The Colonia Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Puente de Vallecas, Madrid, is a residential area built around 1957, part of the post-war government housing development in Vallecas. It was named for its proximity to the emblematic Cerro de los Ángeles (Hill of the Angels), and its streets are distinguished by bearing the names of Spanish zarzuelas (operettas). The colony was declared uninhabitable in the 1990s, although many people continued to live in the houses, which were in very poor condition. In the 2010s, demolition of the neighborhood began to make way for 1,200 new apartments, but one homeowner refused the offer made for his property. The house of "El Bigotes" (The Moustache) resisted for approximately 15 years, blocking the completion of one of the buildings. In October 2025, the house was demolished by court order. We listen to the construction from the exact spot where the house of resistance had stood.
