Recordist's notes

Thessaloniki, June 15, 2026. It was around 8:20 PM when I decided to walk down from the Upper Town (Ano Poli) towards the city center. As I descended, recording the soundscape, I reflected on the gradual transitions in the city's acoustic environment. Many years ago, someone walking down this same street would likely not have heard a single car. Now, as you approach the center, the sounds of traffic become increasingly dense. Every time someone revs an engine, as you get closer to the center, you can feel the hot breath of the engine almost inside you.
