Recordist's notes

Once a busy station, Staunton is now a whistle stop. Recorded on a somewhat sweltering weekday afternoon about fifteen feet from the tracks and maybe ten times that distance to the Middlebrook Avenue. One can hear the sound of the original station building being renovated for the sake of a new business, traffic on the street, a gentle summer shower and its stillicide dripping from the canopy. In its heyday this was a bustling place. It may bustle again in the future, but for now it is like an eddy somewhat apart from the main stream of life and traffic through downtown, with only a freight train or two each day and six passenger trains each week.
