Mostly during the night but occassionaly as well during the day. During drone attacks, the "two-wall rule," referring to the number of walls to put between oneself and the potential impact site, offers some degree of safety. For large-caliber missiles and glide bombs, however, underground shelters are essential. These two threats also operate on different timelines. Drones move slowly, at an average speed of 200 km/h, and their distinctive moped-like noise gives a few seconds' warning to take cover. Cruise missiles travel four times faster, but have longer flight times, which means they can be detected in advance, and Ukrainian air defenses often shoot them down. In contrast, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as glide bombs, are extremely difficult to intercept. Their flight times are so short that civilians have very little time to react once an alert is given.
