Recordist's notes
Passing Bill's restaurant, I noticed the distinctive sounds of a Blackbird. I remembered that Phil Harding had mentioned the sound of this species is a bit like scissors and decided to record the sound so I could later compare it to the snip snip snip of my amazing pair of Ernest & Wright scissors. You can hear the rumble of Reading all around - truly there is nowhere in my town to get away from the bass of traffic - but you can also hear this bird, who has made its home in the trees near a restaurant and the church yard of St. Mary's Butts. The singing tones of the bus brakes, the snip snip snip of the Blackbird; these are all sounds of winter evenings in Reading. I really enjoyed standing in the cold blue light and listening to my town and this Blackbird making his evening calls within it. Recorded with EDIROL R09.
