Recordist's notes
This recording is of the "dynamic sound" installation commissioned for the 10th Anniversary of the Oracle shopping centre in Reading, on the place where the 11th Century St Giles' Watermill once stood. As I walk northwards from inside the shopping centre and stand on the bridge over the brook where the sound installation is sited, synth pads, acoustic guitar riffs and flowing water sounds emerge to form a bed underpinning the sounds of shoppers and a man removing moss from a roof opposite. For me, the question this recording poses is whether reimaginings and reinterpretations of sounds past adds to the experience and understanding of the place? Recorded using a spaced pair of Naiant X-X microphones and a Tascam DR680MKII.
