Recordist's notes

This is a recording of the old "clocking in" mechanism at the entrance to Coldharbour Mill, a historic (and still working) yarn-spinning factory in Uffculme, Devon. I think to clock in to work at the factory you had a punch card which you marked by placing it in this big clock and hitting the lever, thus both stamping the card and producing this amazing (and very loud) sound!
