Recordist's notes
Westwood marsh is a very special and atmospheric place with unique wildlife. It is one of the largest reedbeds in the UK surrounded by woodland and heath beside the North Sea and now a Suffolk Wildlife Trust/RSPB nature reserve. I have been coming here for more than 60 years and am always amazed at how unchanged it seems in all that time. Today is a beautiful winter's day with intense bright sun and blue sky. The strong gusty wind hisses through the reeds and rocks trees and people. The old, lichen covered, wooden gates creak and groan. It feels timeless as the evening sun sets below the distant tree line.
