Recordist's notes
There is an old tradition on Christmas in Romania where in rural villages young people would dress as bears and do a ritual most probably of pagan origins, going from house to house doing chants and rhythms. Nowadays, in cities there are people who only pretend to re-enact this ritual, dressing with poor imitations and very low musical sense, if any. They beat some makeshift drums with the same rhythm, say some rhymes that don't have much sense but most importantly expect passers-by to throw them money for the "show". You can hear the drums getting louder as they slowly approach from the side. Recorded with Superlux S502 Stereo ORTF mic and a Zoom F8 recorder.
