Recordist's notes
Opencast mining is done by monstrously large machines. The cutting edge is a huge wheel of buckets that gouges the coal seams in circular sweeps. The coal is immediately carried to storage mountains and the railheads on conveyer belts sometimes kilometers long. I am surprised how relatively quiet these machines are given their size.
