Recordist's notes
Peironcely 10 is a residential building in Vallekas made famous by Robert Capa's 1936 photograph portraying children playing in front of its destroyed-by-the-fascist-bombs-façade during the Spanish Civil War. The image turned the building into a symbol of civilian resistance and life under war and of the working-class neighborhoods on Madrid's periphery. The residents were evicted between 2017 and 2019 as part of a municipal intervention linked to redevelopment plans, and the building was at risk of demolition. Public pressure and campaigns around historical memory prevented its destruction, and plans were approved to rehabilitate it as a memorial and cultural space and a museum for Robert Capa. Since then, the building has remained empty, at least now in 2026. Today, it is surrounded by traffic, rail infrastructure, and everyday urban activity, and on a Sunday (as the moment of recording) you hear people walking to the neighborhood's market, the Mercadillo de Entrevías.
