Recordist's notes
The recording was taken with a Zoom H2n mic on a hot August afternoon. The temperature was 24c and no clouds in the sky. You can hear a small plane taking off, and another hovering above the airport. Intermittent loud 'pops' can be heard from a grape vineyard across the road. These pops are Bird Bangers. They are similar to loud firecrackers, and they are placed throughout farm fields to go off randomly from various locations. Here in Pelee, they protect grapes and soy fields from being destroyed by birds. This non-lethal, humane form of hazing for birds and other animals has been going on here for decades. Regards, Maurice Azzano
