Recordist's notes
This soundwalk recording, using a Zoom H2n mic, was taken while walking outside on the perimeter of Beaver Valley Community School in Thornbury, ON, Canada. Taken on 12 February 2025, the recording captures the soundscape of this residential area, after several stormy, snowy days. While walking, you can hear that there is a distinct crunch with each step on the snow, followed by an almost inaudible ‘squeak’. In the distance, there is a low-flying airplane and dogs are barking. Around 2:15, thicker snow (0.5m) creates a hollow sound. At 2:45, a crow can be heard. A Snowblower and various vehicles appear in the foreground, with some children playing in the playground. The recording captures this soundwalk around the school at 13:45, under windy, cold -25c grey skies.
