Recordist's notes
In this beautiful crumbly old Victorian hotel, we had a creaky old vent in the bathroom. It's an extractor fan, but if you leave it switched off, it seems to capture and filter and resonate the sounds of the sea from outside through its rattly old arteries. I loved listening to the sea both through the thin glass of our huge windows, and through the pipes and tunnels of this amazingly sonorous old fan. Recorded by leaving my trusty Edirol R-09 on the bathroom light while we left the room for our breakfast.
