Recordist's notes
Hilary Wilson keeps Rough Fell sheep and has written a book about hill farming. She has collected a lot of oral histories of hill farmers in Cumbria, and is very keen on the Rough Fell sheep and the whole way of life that surrounds farming this breed in the Lake District. This is the sound of the wind on her farm, which I think does a great job of evoking all the reasons why the Rough Fell sheep needs such a thick, coarse fleece to protect it from the elements.
